Meath Festivals 2013

Welcome to County Meath, the undisputed heritage capital of Ireland. Steeped in history; soaked in culture; Meath is a county of great diversity; a diversity that is carved throughout its landscape.  From the megalithic tombs of Newgrange and Loughcrew to the religious settlements of Kells and Bective Abbey; from the ring forts of Tara to the turrets of Trim Castle; the birthplace of St. Oliver Plunkett and the inspiration of Dean Jonathan Swift; Meath has left an indelible imprint on Irish history.

Known locally as ‘The Royal County’ Meath celebrates its cultural heritage and traditions annually with a selection and diversity of festivals and events that few counties in Ireland can match. Whether its Steam Threshing in Moynalty or Hot Air Ballooning in Trim; Opera in Loughcrew Gardens or Rock & Roll in Oldcastle; there is something in Meath for everyone. If it’s a Blue Jean Country Queen you are after then Athboy is the place to go; if speed and the thrill of international motor racing is for you then head down to the Kells Roads Races. If you just want to experience or celebrate the country way of life visit the agricultural shows in Oldcastle and Trim or the Fair Days in Nobber or Dunshaughlin.

Each year the festivals in Meath attract visitors from Dublin, from throughout Ireland and from all over the world. The staggering range of activities, interests and products that are highlighted through these festivals give visitors - both local and foreign - a superb flavour of authentic Irish life in the region but, more than this, they provide a chance for everyone to have a lot of fun.

As we say in Meath, “The Royal is Alive”.

We hope to see you around the county!
