The Laurence Gilson Summer School runs under the banner of "Education for Imagination".
"Everyone's an Educator: Adventures & Challenges" is the key theme of this annual summer school held in Oldcastle in May. It is an event aimed at everyone who has even a passing interest in Education. There are exhibitions, panel discussions, seminars, workshops and talks and the keynote speaker this year is Declan Coyle, author of 'The Green Platform'. There is a significant emphasis on exploring our past with talks on key historical figures and this emphasis on cultural heritage is in contrast to the hotly debated discussions addressing topics like "Thinking Time: Teaching Philosophy in Primary School" which will address issue of how we might teach children to think for themselves.
